Since it's been a few months since the last time, I was going to post another one of those identity-20-random-lyrics quizzes -- and I still might, before the week's out.
But this meme, found on
vixyish's LJ, was both quicker and much fun:
Put your music player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first song is the title.
So here's a poetical offering to which Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash, Talis Kimberley, Paul Simon, Lennon/McCartney, the Old 97s, Great Big Sea, Tom T. Hall,
vixyish herself, among others, all contributed. My contribution was adding punctuation and spacing to suit myself and make it all flowing and poetical and stuff.
YOUR WORDS ARE KILLING ME
"I can go anywhere" --
She dreams of saints in colored windows,
up the airy mountain, down the rushy glen.
Is it just me or a message from above --
"Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes-Benz?"
Up the lazy river where the old mill runs —
butterfly soul, find yourself a place in this world.
I hear the train a-comin'.
Well, I went for a walk on the rocky cliffs;
outside my window is a tree ...
If you really love me, won't you tell me?
There are places I remember --
-- I remember her standing in the tall grass and cattails.
It was a lonely holiday; I was alone, you were away.
At my door the leaves are falling.
I met my old lover on the street last night.
I could be wrong, but I have seen your face before,
down here on the redneck Riviera
I fell too hard and much too deep in love with you.
Rock steady, baby.
