THIS BLOG HAS GONE COMMERCIAL
Nov. 5th, 2008 01:54 amUpgraded to a Plus account tonight, because, ehhh, it's free. If the ads become overly annoying, or if there's a preponderance of 'em that I find objectionable in content, I may revert back to basic (or finally take a crowbar to my wallet and go back to Paid). But now I can access my old user icons -- such as the one accompanying this entry, which seems particularly appropriate tonight.
SIT BY THE FIRE WHILE I CLOSE THE DOOR
Nov. 5th, 2008 11:43 pmHappy birthday to
phillip2637! Phil, along with
janeg, are among the first people I look for at any filk convention I attend.
They both convey a palpable appreciation for the filk community and the people in it, and Phil has a soft-spoken affability about him that belies all the action going on in his mind -- action that sometimes results in some mighty, mighty fine songs ("Tea at Four," one of the best-ever songs in a Tolkien theme/setting and the one from which the subject line is lifted); "Bedtime Stories," "I Don't Think They've Noticed That I'm Dead" and, of course, the universal follower "Universal Follower," to name just a few) and sometimes into wry, one-off observations and puns and one-line instafilks sparked by a stray comment. (He's left those all over my LJ, and no doubt plenty of others as well.)
I've always enjoyed time spent with Phil and Jane, and hope to do so on many more occasions.
Sounds & Images: Workbench Songs (Guy Clark)
State O'Mind: Appreciative
