SHINGLES REDUX
Feb. 6th, 2006 02:55 pmUploaded a few more photos to Flickr -- mostly older ones that I kinda like -- the horse statue in particular. (The cannon shot on the page looks awfully pixilated or somethin' -- then again, it's scanned from a glossy snapshot, so what can you expect?)
My pastor's wife has shingles, and hers is a touch more dangerous than the case my mom had on her back a few months ago -- this one's near the eyes. Though the scabbing has started, which is a good sign from what we've heard. Mike, our pastor, made an interesting observation yesterday: Even if one believes, as he and I do, in Heaven, in a future realm of existence -- human relationships aren't going to be the same as they are here. (Jesus said something to the effect that they neither marry nor are given in marriage in that realm.) It's useless to speculate overmuch about it, because nobody's been there and back (definitively, anyway), and scriptural accounts are vague and more evocative than definitive. But the point is this: We need to appreciate and love our loved ones now. Because even if one believes in Heaven, we still only get one shot at this present life. We can either spend it on love, compassion, justice, etc., or we can waste it on selfishness or nothingness.
I should probably put spiritual-digression warning labels up like I did with my comics-geekery warning post ... *smiles*
That's three people I know who have had shingles in the past year -- and I know at least one of you on the f-list have grappled with it before. Nasty stuff. Prayers, warm thoughts, etc., are as always appreciated.
