COOL BREEZES FROM THE MOUNTAINS BLOW
Feb. 8th, 2009 09:47 pmI seem to have taken one of my periodic weeklong vacations from LJ-posting. Not too much to report over the past week or so. I interviewed Leonard Bernstein's daughter, which was fun. I nearly set my kitchen on fire, which was not. Cut my cable down to basic because I'll save nearly 50 bucks a month -- and will also reduce any idle channel-surfing. (Pretty much anything I watch regularly -- Lost, Austin City Limits and Doctor Who -- all are either on basic or PBS.) Started reading some Hemingway for the first time in nearly a decade and decided that yup, he was quite a good writer. (Though I think part of the problem with 20th century American fiction has been that too many people tried to use his writing voice rather than finding their own.) Enjoyed the Super Bowl, though I haven't really followed the NFL this year: I have a soft spot for Pittsburgh, and it was a well-played game. (Plus, Bruce at the half.)
It occurs to me, however, that I have yet to post the answers to the Opening Lyrics quiz in this post. So here goes, with appropriate video links and such because I just can't get enough of typing "a href."
1. Oh I just don’t know where to begin; though he says he'll wait forever, it's now or never ...

"Accidents Will Happen" by Elvis Costello and the Attractions. Here's a YouTube video, apparently from Top of the Pops.
