NOT DYING IS EXPENSIVE
May. 4th, 2008 01:22 amSigh. I really, really don't like parting with nearly $400 at one time, if it can be avoided. But since it involved replacing brakes that were nearly completely shot, it had to be done. (The actual cost was more like $370ish; I had an oil change done while I was there Friday.) The downside is, I've placed myself on fairly strict austerity, at least till the tax rebate comes in. (I hate being dependent on that kind of thing.) The upside is, I'm far less likely now to die in a messy manner and take others with me. So the good, I think, outweighs the bad.
Today was the first Saturday in my new era of Not Working Weekends. Being on self-imposed strict austerity, I didn't go out of anything (other than with my mom in the early afternoon), but that was OK: Got some long-overdue cleaning done at the apartment (though not enough to suit me), did some reading, chatted some by phone with M. (the lady I mentioned in a previous post, met in a chance encounter when she bought stuff from me on CraigsList), and watched both Doctor Who and Austin City Limits (Alejandro Escovedo tonight, neat). Low-key evening, but I probably needed it.
Supposed to interview Ingrid Michaelson on Tuesday. I know very little about her, other than having heard a few of her songs. We'll see how it goes. Still haven't heard back from the firm that represents T Bone Burnett.
That's about it tonight. Not a scintillating post, but nothin' all that scintillating to report lately. Closed out my third official week as arts/entertainment editor; it continues to be fun and diverse. I am beginning to see my propensity to throw myself so ambitiously into new projects that I overload and overbook myself; fortunately I saw it fairly early on.
Note: The self-imposed strict austerity means no Marcon, Balticon or NE Filkcon Whose Name Completely Flew My Cranial Coop. (All cons I haven't been to but was considering adding this year.) Confluence, however, remains in the plans, as does OVFF.
