I'm tentatively planning to attend the 2009 Worldcon, having learned that it will be in Montreal. 'Twill be my first Worldcon since 2004 in Boston. Montreal is within my general geographic travel-zone (since I mostly drive and don't have the discretionary income to do a lot of flying -- I mostly keep to the Northeast U.S., southern Ontario, the Mid-Atlantic and the Midwest, aside from the very occasional family trip South, which one of these years I'll try to coordinate with a GAFilk) and is a city I've always wanted to visit. Neil Gaiman as guest of honor is a pretty good draw, too. * Of course, pretty much all of the Worldcon cities since my last one have been in cities I've wanted to visit, but Glasgow, L.A., Yokohama and even Denver are outside my zone. (Actually, I would still probably have talked myself into it if 2009's competing bid, Kansas City, had won.)

So ... Question One, for the Fandom/Filk/SF/Fantasy crowd among my f-list (that's well over half of all y'all, maybe even three-quarters): Anybody else anticipating an Anticipation in 2009?

And Question Two, for any with experience of Montreal: any recommendations of Things One Absolutely Can't Miss Or At Least Should Try To Check Out during a visit? That's open-ended: cultural stuff, nature, restaurants, tourist-type stuff, stuff the tourists don't hear about, etc.

* Heh. I very nearly collided into Gaiman turning a convention-center corner while rushing to meet a friend on the Freedom Trail back in 2004 -- which, judging by our respective mass (he's tall, but I'm big) and my velocity at the time, may have been The End of Neil. That would have been Not Good At All. Of course, my friend Bryan has on two separate occasions nearly accidentally run over Cher. That would have been ... well, still Not Good At All.

When did I start Using So Many Capital Letters?

Words: Settling Accounts: In at the Death by Harry Turtledove -- what looks to be the end of his Timeline 191/Southern Victory series. I normally don't like looooong series of novels that encompass more than one trilogy -- in this case, it was one stand-alone kickoff, two trilogies and a tetralogy -- but hey, it's Turtledove. He's my literary popcorn, if you will. Doesn't mean I'll be taking the plunge into Robert Jordan anytime soon.
