Today is Easter, the day I join with millions across the world and across time who affirm an audacious claim: that some 2,000 years ago a murdered man -- who was, in fact, more than man but who willingly accepted the limitations of humanity -- did not stay dead. And that, as a result, no one has to.

I'm a bit too tired today to do a proper Easter post -- or proper anything post; I worked until 3-something a.m. followed by a 6:30 a.m. service, so I didn't bother sleeping until this afternoon -- so I'll just refer to the one I made last year for Good Friday, which is probably the most concise statement of my beliefs I've managed to make: http://ldwheeler.livejournal.com/2006/04/15/

Whether or not it's a day you celebrate, hope it's been a good day for you so far.

By the way, [livejournal.com profile] whouseknecht posted to the [livejournal.com profile] christianity community a fascinating, and joyful/triumphant, poem by Ezra Pound about the Resurrection. I'm not too familiar with Pound's work, just his reputation -- and believe he was a bit sour on orthodox Christianity (or at least T.S. Eliot's embrace of same) -- but I was quite taken with this poem. It gives a bit of a take on Jesus that one doesn't see much of in many cultural depictions, which tend to present him as more remote and/or aloof than he's depicted in scripture.
