GUAC AROUND THE CLOCK
Jun. 3rd, 2005 12:30 amJust finished making guacamole for a party tomorrow night -- a colleague is showing "Napoleon Dynamite." It's largely for my benefit, since that's one of the Many Movie's That Dave Hasn't Seen, To The Amusement Of All. It's gotten to the point where guacamole is my signature dish -- I made it for one gathering on a whim, and it was such a hit that everyone has pretty much demanded that I make it every time we get together. Interesting feat, considering I never make it the same way twice. I mean, the base ingredients are always the same: avocados, cilantro, onions, tomatoes, garlic, lemon juice and salt. But then I add various seasonings, spices, herbs and splashes of various liquids around the house. Over the past several attempts, I have added coffee, vanilla extract, honey, vinegar, and even dark beer. And no matter what I do, everybody loves it.
I gots a hit on my hands.
Let's hear if the culinary luminaries on the friends-list have a signature dish?
Words: Picked up Marv Wolfman's novelization -- actually a complete reimagining -- of his "Crisis on Infinite Earths" series. It's okay, but I guess that, as far as these things go, I was spoiled by Elliot S. Maggin's novelization of "Kingdom Come," which approached, well, literature. (As far as largely retired and forgotten comics writers go, Wolfman's always been a good idea man but Maggin was a Writer.)
Sounds & Images: Halfway watched the Yankees lose to the Royals out of the corner of my eye tonight. Made me happy.
State O'Mind: Cheffish
